School Visitation Policy

To protect the security of District students, staff, and the learning environment at schools, all visitors, including parents and
guardians, must follow these guidelines:
1. **Reporting and Identification**: All visitors must report to the campus administrative office and present a government-issued photo identification that includes the visitor’s name and date of birth. This requirement applies to parents, Board members, volunteers, social service workers, speakers, maintenance and repair personnel not employed by the District, vendors, representatives of the news media, former students, and all other visitors.
2. **Visitor Badges**: Visitors must wear the badge provided by the office in a prominent location.
3. **Classroom Visits**: Visits to individual classrooms during instructional time are allowed only with prior approval from the principal and the teacher. Parents can suggest a date and time for a visit, but teachers have the right to request another date if the proposed visit may disrupt classroom activities. Such visits are permitted if:
- Their duration and frequency do not interfere with instruction or disrupt the normal school environment.
- Visitors must adhere to the same classroom rules as students.
- Phones, cameras, and recorders must be turned off and kept out of sight.
- The requested visit cannot involve third parties (other than school officials, parents, or guardians) observing a classroom while students are present.
4. **Information Dissemination**: No visitor is allowed to share information with students and staff without prior approval from the Superintendent or their designee, as outlined in GKDA (Local).
5. **Solicitation and Recruitment**: Visitors may not solicit, proselytize, or recruit for fundraising, religious groups, youth organizations, or political causes.
6. **Media Visits**: Media representatives must arrange visits to school campuses with the Assistant Superintendent of Communications.
7. **Attire**: Visitors are expected to dress appropriately while on District school grounds, generally following the dress code outlined in the Student Handbook.
8. **Background Checks**: Any visitor who wishes to have a regular presence in District schools and/or interact directly with students must consent to a criminal background check.
By adhering to these guidelines, we can ensure a safe and productive learning environment for everyone.
